about the artist
Foraging through urban wildernesses, Jerry Swaffield harvests a massive artillery of supplies with which to make his visually stunning “scraptures.” In these, he weaves together a mosaic, overlapping and juxtaposing collected imagery from the nooks and crannies of Asian metropolises. He then paints on these collages, and with an incredibly dexterous hand creates a cornucopia of richly colored information. Our retinal senses are properly jolted as we gaze upon these testimonial compositions that tell, in detail, of its author’s migration as well as comment on our increasingly connected world. Born in Germany, Swaffield now lives and works in Siem Reap, Cambodia. He was included in the international touring exhibition Roundabout at the City Gallery Wellington, New Zealand and Tel Aviv Museum of Art, Israel.
