A sequel to Sung’s The Road (The World I) and The World II, The World III is the young artist’s most ambitious and most monumental work to date. Working with materials that diverge from her usual oils and canvasses, Sung produces 289 individual watercolors on paper. Each work is a building block of a remarkably detailed composition, featuring the artist’s signature doe-eyed girl among a fantastical landscape of flora and fauna. In preparation, Sung voyaged to northern Thailand in search of the flowers she would eventually choose to include. The result is an impressive masterpiece that attests to the artist's many breakthroughs, having overcome a host of challenges that include the tackling of unfamiliar media, novel format, and unprecedented scale.
